De Kock was born on 17 December 1992 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He attended King Edward VII School, where he excelled in cricket and was spotted as an exceptional talent from. He represented South Africa in the Under-19 World Cup in 2012 and made his domestic debut for the Highveld Lions in that year.
De Kock quickly caught the national selectors’ eye when he starred in a match-winning partnership with Neil McKenzie in the Champions League T20 against the Mumbai Indians.
