Emilio Estevez was born in New York City on May 12, 1962, to Martin and Janet.

He is the eldest sibling, with a close relationship with his brothers and sisters. Before his family's move to Malibu in 1968, Estevez resided in Manhattan and attended a public school before transferring to a private academy as his father's career flourished.
